5 lbs. flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup oil
4-1/2 cups water
4 eggs
2 oz. yeast
2 tbs. sale
Dissolve yeast in 2 cups water with 1/2 cup sugar. Allow to bubble. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Let rise in oiled bowl, covered. Punch down and let rise again. Braid, and brush with 1 egg mixed with a little water and a little sugar. Bake at 425 for 12-15 minutes, then reduce heat and continue baking at 350 for 20 minutes. For bilkalach, bake at 425 for 6 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 and bake 10-15 minutes more.
